Ransomware basically is a form of malware that locks (encrypts) your files, data & even system, when this happens then creators of ransomware demands some huge amount of money from victims for unlocking (decrypting) those locked stuffs. Process like creating ransomware, spreading ransomware and asking money (payment in bitcoin, or via darknet onion site) for unlocking those locked file falls under cybercriminal activities.
